Artist's Comments

On textured paper, with a sanguine oil pencil, it's a lion! Yay!
From a statue in the Piazza della Signoria in Florence, Italy. I made fwiends with this lion. See, the was him, and also a ugly lion. And the ugly lion didn't like me cause I kept saying he was ugly. But he WAS!

...

Anyway, I have funny photos where finches and pigeons landed on top of his head and he's looking up at the like this - you can imagine. (well I found them funny anyway)
Notice how he's missing a tooth.
Yeah, so, wrong anatomy and weird shading/fault lines are because this is not a real lion, it's a statue of one :D

Actually came out ok with my camera this time! (though real thing is NOT this yellowy)

Actaully, from last time I saw this in person, it looks better on camera. But thats possibly because it's actually finished now...
:iconkyani:
eh...maybe cause the making of the paper yellow instead of white gets rid of the problem I had fading out the sanguine to nothing. I think it blends in better with the brown now.

Yeah. I would agree.

Great work! i love the texture! Just a question, what is an oil pencil? Is that like chinese marker or something like that?

Just a suggestion, not for this one, it is soo good I can't tell anything but, I suggest you to try to use also to draw the lights. You see what I mean? I think that it is a colored paper so, it would be good with a wight pencil to do some highlight! Anyway, it is just a suggestion! C ya! ;-)

Never heard of Chinese markers, sorry. Oil pencils...have you ever used sanguine oil? It's kinda hard to describe. If you have, it's like a pencil with that as a lead. Halfway between coloured pencil and oil pastel.
White would be good, actually! I suppose it never occured to me at the time because it was school work and I only ever do as much as necessary, hehe.

Thanks for you comments!
